I’m excited to share some behind-the-scenes and insights into my design process for creating my new mini collection: The Myro Suite.
It all started 10 years ago with a bracelet. Each time I visited The Met, I’d have to walk through the Byzantine jewelry hall to gaze at the most beautiful bracelet I had ever seen. I passed by it countless times, dreaming of making something to equal its magic.
Typically, I dislike copying existing designs, so I put off the idea of creating a replica for years. But something changed at the end of last year, and I decided that I wanted to recreate this piece for myself, which had lived rent-free in my mind for the past decade.

I was feeling a bit stagnant at the end of last year, and since I knew this design was low stakes, it helped get me back into a good headspace with wax carving. There was no risk of spending hours on it, only to hate it. So, in September of last year, I started carving the bracelet link motif.

Once I had the wax perfected, I took it to the casting house for molding and to have the pieces cast in brass, and my prototype for the vertical bracelet was complete! When I saw it on my wrist, I audibly gasped. My dream bracelet was finally becoming a reality.
FURTHER DEVELOPMENT
Since the bracelet was something I had essentially copied from the ancient one, I wanted to develop it a bit further. I used to design a lot of mixed-metal jewelry, especially when I was in school, so I decided to take an element from my roots and make it two-tone, splitting the bracelet in half with each metal.

I knew this piece would come with a hefty price tag, given all the individually cast elements, so I opted to create an additional horizontal version along with a matching choker.
While playing with the individual links, I had an idea to create an earring with asymmetrical pearls dripping down, thus finishing the suite.

For the final touches, I needed to name each piece. I love adding an extra layer of intrigue with a unique name, so I researched Byzantine-era women as a point of inspiration. I attributed the arrow motif on the links to Artemis, goddess of archery, who was celebrated as a symbol of resilience during the Byzantine era.
The suite is now live on my site, and you can discover it here. Please let me know what you think, and if you like these types of BTS posts. Thanks for reading!
